A favourite with the fans, and skilful player capable of playing in numerous positions in the front line, Dobing scored 104 goals in 205 League and Cup games for Blackburn Rovers.

Following that and a stint at Manchester City, Dobing signed for City in 1963 when in his first season he gained a runner's up medal in the League Cup.  He later went on to captain the Cup Winning side in 1972.

In 1973, when Dobing was supposed to be serving a nine week suspension, his career ended due to a broken leg.
