Sir Stanley Matthews, CBE

One of the greatest names in football, and one of the best players of all time. A son of the Potteries, he went on to achieve world-wide fame and was an ambassador for sport, football, his home-town and Stoke City Football Club. A brilliant winger for City, Blackpool and England.

	23.07.2007 Peter Shilton, MBE, OBE Peter Shilton was already an established England international when he joined City, following in the footsteps of Gordon Banks, and went on to be one of the game's modern greats.
	23.07.2007 Peter Dobing City captain in 1972, he lifted the League Cup at Wembley only to see his career ended shortly afterwards by a broken leg.
	23.07.2007 George Eastham, OBE Widely-travelled player who attained Potteries cult status by scoring the winning goal in the 1972 League Cup final. He later managed the club.
	23.07.2007 Sir Geoff Hurst, MBE Former England World Cup winner and record-maker - the only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final - who joined the Potters in the later stages of his career.
	23.07.2007 Mike Pejic Another of the club's fine crop of youth players from the 1960's, he went on to play for England during a career which also embraced Everton and Aston Villa.
	22.07.2007 John "Jackie" Marsh Great defensive servant who helped the club achieve success following his rise from the youth ranks in the 60's.
	22.07.2007 Eric Skeels Known as "Mr Dependable", he still holds the record for the most League appearances for City - a record which, in the modern age, will probably never be beaten.
	22.07.2007 Alan Bloor A rugged, determined defender, Alan Bloor was a one-club man who spent his entire 18-year career with City.
