City and Wolves picked up a point a piece following a goalless draw at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

An evenly contested match could have seen either side pick up maximum points, however poor finishing cost both side's dearly.

Rory Delap was denied a cast iron penalty in the final minutes, leaving the City fans and players furious.

Tony Pulis made two changes from the side which was narrowly beaten at Southampton a week ago.

Gabriel Zakuani made his debut following his arrival on loan from Fulham on transfer deadline day.

The DR Congo defender came in to replace Andy Wilkinson, who dropped down to the bench.

Carl Dickinson was also recalled to the starting eleven, playing at left back, while Clint Hill moved back in to his favoured centre-back position with Jody Craddock ineligible to play.

Mama Sidibe was again favoured to partner Ricardo Fuller up front, despite Jon Parkin bagging a goal in each of his last two games.

The match started slowly, with both sides canceling each other out in midfield.

Wolves' Nigerian international Seyi George Olofinjana was first to try his luck from 30 yards, however his effort trickled wide of Steve Simonsen's right hand post.

Stephen Ward was next to have a go, but after dancing his way past both Rory Delap and Dominic Matteo, he curled the ball well over the bar.

City almost took the lead just after the half hour, as Fuller's 20-yard effort was deflected goalwards by Gary Breen, but agonizingly dipped just on to the roof of the net.

From the resulting corner, Matteo latched on to a bobbling ball but fired well wide.

Tony Pulis' side continued to push forward, and Richard Cresswell should have done better after Delap's long throw evaded everyone bar the former Preston man.

With half-time approaching Breen attempted a 30-yard thunderbolt, which took a wicked deflection before dropping just wide of the left hand post.

Seconds later, Fuller embarked on a darting run down the right wing, before squaring to Lawrence, who fired straight at Wayne Hennessey.

Simonsen had to be alert on 53 minutes to save Darren Ward's powerful header from Kightly's in-swinging corner.

Two minutes later winger Lawrence was set free down the right flank, but after taking a touch he shot tamely at the keeper.

Right on the hour mark, City should have taken the lead. Fuller brilliantly controlled a long ball forward but his shot drifted agonizingly wide of the post.

Mick McCarthy's side could have taken the lead themselves a couple of minutes later, but Olofinjana couldn't quite divert Breen's header in to the net.

Chances at both ends were few and far between, but when substitute Parkin set Delap free with just two minutes to go, he should have secured all three points.

The former Sunderland man rounded keeper Hennessey, and despite having his ankles clipped, he attempted to put the ball in to the back of the net but unfortunately slipped over with the goal at his mercy.

The Potters pressed forward until the final whistle but couldn't find a winner.
