City secured a well earned point at the Hawthorns thanks to Ryan Shawcross' first half header.

The on loan Manchester United defender rose highest to head home in the 28th minute, before Leon Barnett nodded home a 73rd minute equaliser.

Tony Pulis made two changes ahead of the clash with Mamady Sidibe replacing Jon Parkin following his shin injury.

While John Eustace made his first league start in almost six months, replacing Rory Delap, who picked up an injury at Leicester on Saturday.

Vincent Pericard was also named on the substitutes bench just four days after his release from prison.

Steve Simonsen was called into action in the tenth minute, and he did well to acrobatically palm Ishmael Miller's lob over the bar.

The on loan Manchester City youngster again caused the City rearguard problems, but his powerful effort was diverted wide by the outstretched Gabriel Zakuani.

Ricardo Fuller set off on the Potters first meaningful attack on goal, but after twisting and turning his way through the defence he mis-timed his shot and slipped over.

Minutes later the Baggies should have been one up, Miller found himself unmarked following an inch perfect cross from Filipe Teixeira however he powered his header just wide of the post.

Eustace tried the spectacular from 25-yards, following good work from Fuller, but his shot was tipped away by Baggies keeper Dean Kiely.

It was the Potters who took the lead just minutes later as on loan Manchester United defender Shawcross powered his header home following a great cross from former Sunderland man Lawrence.

Fuller immediately set about making that two, but he shot well over with Cresswell free on the left hand side.

Pulis was forced to make an early sub after Zakuani went down following a heavy challenge, Carl Dickinson was brought on as his replacement.

Robert Koren stung the fingertips of Simonsen in the 40th minute, with the City number one doing well to keep hold of his powerful drive.

The dangerous Miller again went close for Tony Mowbray's side, firing low and hard across Simonsen but his shot went inches wide.

Following the half time interval the Baggies came out all guns blazing, and the Potters had to stand firm to soak up the pressure.

The visitors almost made it two just before the hour mark. Sidibe rose highest following a brilliant Liam Lawrence corner, but he saw his header hacked off the line by Koren.

Pulis' side had the ball in the net for a second time, following a quick free kick routine, which saw Lawrence fire home, however the referee adjudged it to be taken to quickly.

Parkin was brought on to look an exhausted Sidibe in the 64th minute, and his presence won City a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, which Dominic Matteo blazed over.

The hosts were piling the pressure on during the second period, and despite all of City's heroic defending, they could do nothing about former Luton defender Barnett scrambling the ball home to level the score line in the 73rd minute.

Substitute Sherjill MacDonald went close with his first touch of the game, after smashing a right footed effort goalwards which Simonsen brilliantly turned around the post.

James Morrison almost gave the Baggies the lead with just nine minutes remaining, however he fired his shot just over from 18-yards.

Miller had a glorious chance to win the game in the 88th minute after bursting through on goal, but Simonsen reacted brilliantly to save at the feet of the powerful striker.

Barely a minute later Zoltan Gera fired a spectacular effort at goal, and again Simonsen was on hand to thwart his strike.

Lawrence somehow danced his way into the box in injury time before chipping the ball across to the approaching Fuller, but he headed wide from 8-yards.
