Manager Tony Pulis fielded two separate teams for the matches against the Terriers, with first team coach Mark O'Connor taking charge of one while former boss Gary Megson oversaw the other.

The matches consisted of two halves of 35 minutes, with the visitors switching pitches at half time to give the City squad different opposition.

Match 1 saw the Potters pick up a comfortable 3-0 win with Vincent Pericard bagging a brace and Jon Parkin opening his pre-season account with an exquisite lob.

Meanwhile match 2 saw City earn a 2-2 draw with the League One side; Ricardo Fuller hitting his third and fourth goals in just two games.

Match 1

A brace from Vincent Pericard and a Jon Parkin strike secured City a comfortable 3-0 win over League One side Huddersfield Town.

Liam Lawrence aggravated a groin injury and had to be replaced early on with the full extent of the problem not to be known for a couple of days.

The Potters started the brighter of the two teams with Pericard causing problems from the off.

However it was the visitors who crafted the first real opportunity after eleven minutes, but Russell Hoult was on hand to thwart their effort from close range.

John Eustace tried his luck from long range, before Parkin gave the home side the lead just short of the half hour with a tremendous lob, which left the keeper stranded.

Just minutes later Parkin combined with the impressive Pericard, before the former Juventus striker rounded the keeper and slotted home to double the advantage.

City were rampant and again Pericard hustled his way through the defence before firing his effort just over the bar.

As the half time whistle approached Andy Ritchie's side could have snatched an undeserved goal, however Danny Schofield's effort flew inches wide of Hoult's left hand post.

In the second half Parkin tried his luck again from long range but his second powerful volley flew inches over the bar.

Mark O'Connor's men grabbed their third though midway through the half when Tom Thorley was released down the right and his low cross was slid home by Vincent Pericard from close range.

CITY: Hoult; Buxton, Wilkinson, Higginbotham, Dickinson; Lawrence (Thorley), Pulis, Eustace, Garrett; Parkin, Pericard.

Match 2

Meanwhile, the second game saw Ricardo Fuller scored twice in a 2-2 draw.

City took the lead early on as good work from Mamady Sidibe was rewarded when his pass to Fuller was neatly put away by the Jamaican.

City made it 2-0 after fifteen minutes when Rooney's ball from the left hand side was defended poorly and allowed Fuller to grab his fourth in two games with a powerful strike from just inside the box.

Five minutes later the visitors pulled one back. An in swinging corner-kick from the left hand side caused confusion in the City box and former Stockport man Luke Beckett was on hand to prod the ball home from 3 yards out.

Stoke pushed forward from then on and could have got a third when Darel Russell's long range strike was knocked around the post following Adam Rooney's centred pass.

Following the re-start Russell again should have put the Potters further ahead but the keeper was alert to parry his low effort away from goal.

Both sides started to tire as the game wore on, but Clint Hill should have sealed the game for the hosts, but failed to connect with Peter Sweeney inch perfect cross.

City were made to pay for their misses as Huddersfield grabbed a draw thanks to a curling 20-yard free kick.

The Potters pushed for a winner in the final stages but the visitors held firm to secure a draw.

CITY: Simonsen; Delap, Smith, Hill, Hoefkens; Sweeney, Russell, Matteo; Rooney, Fuller, Sidibe.
