Ryan Shawcross last night became the first City player in over two decades to represent England at Under 21 level.

The powerful defender was handed a start against Poland alongside Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha, before being withdrawn 65 minutes in as a precaution after tweaking his hamstring.

The 20-year old put in a commanding display, and speaking exclusively to stokecityfc.com reveals he is eager for more.

"It was a great experience, and one I will never ever forget," smiled Ryan.

"It was a great honour to be a part of last night, I felt so proud when I first put on the shirt and walked out on to the pitch.

"It has made me even hungrier for more. I thought I did ok and we didn't concede a goal so things went pretty well."

Manager Stuart Pearce was full of praise for the defender and Ryan says he has told him to keep up the good work.

"He told me it was a good start to my international career, and that was a nice thing to hear.

"I am an ambitious player, so I will listen to his advice because he knows what he is talking about.

"A few of the lads have gone from the Under 21s in to the first team recently and hopefully I can follow suit in the future.

"But I want to keep my feet on the ground, and keep working hard and giving my all for Stoke City."
