City boss Tony Pulis has released four players after naming his retained list following the end of the 2007/08 season.

Skipper Dominic Matteo, Russell Hoult, Marlon Broomes and Robert Garrett have all left the Britannia Stadium following the club's promotion to the Premier League.

Matteo failed to make another appearance after injuring his foot in November but proved to be an influential figure behind the scenes during the end of season run-in.

Keeper Hoult had been limited to two first-team appearances for the club and spent the end of the campaign out on loan at Notts County where he helped them steer clear of relegation.

Broomes, meanwhile, failed to make a single appearance in two seasons after reoccurrences of an Achilles injury while Garrett had spent the majority of the season out on loan at Wrexham.

Pulis is already on the look out for potential signings, and believes there is a lot of work to be done before the start of the season.

"The work has already began," said Pulis.

"Over the last two seasons I have had to build a new squad for each of them seasons and this year will be no different.

"We will make sure we get the best players we can at the best prices we can, but them players have to not only be good enough to keep us up, but they must also be the right players with the right attitude."

The club wish Dominic, Russell, Marlon and Robert all the best for the future.
