Ryan joined the Potters on an initial six-month loan from Manchester United.
Signed on the Thursday before the season opener at Cardiff City, he went on to score on his debut at Ninian Park.
A tall and powerful defender, Ryan is very dangerous at set-plays, and has already hit the back of the net on four occasions this season, including a memorable header against West Brom.
Regarded as one for the future by Sir Alex Ferguson, Shawcross will look to build upon his talents with much needed first-team football.
