Peter Sweeney hit a brace as City's second string drew two-all in tonight's Pontin's Holidays League Central Division clash with West Bromwich Albion.

Mark O'Connor's men travelled to the Hawthorns to take on a strong Albion line-up with John Hartson, Neil Clement and Ronnie Wallwork all named in the home team's starting eleven.

Sweeney's double included a 25-yard strike and another goal from inside the box, while Dutch defender Shelton Martis and sub Michael Nardiello got the goals for the Baggies.

The home side were awarded a penalty with only nine minutes gone after Jared Hodgkiss was adjudged to be fouled in the area, but Hartson blasted the spot-kick over the bar.

Sweeney opened the scoring on 19 minutes when he fired home a long range strike following a one-two with Lathan Forrester.

Luke Steele in the Baggies goal should have done better as he could only parry the ball into the net.

Steele was again at fault as Peter Sweeney fired goalwards following a clearing header; the keeper allowing the ball straight through his hands three minutes after the first goal.

Martis then pulled one back for the home side on the half-hour mark when he headed home Neil Clement's right sided corner.

City then saw the equaliser come with 16 minutes remaining as Nardiello smashed home David Worrall's left wing cross from 12 yards.

Stoke nearly grabbed a winner on 79 minutes when Demar Phillips put Robbie Garrett on goal but after rounding the keeper, the Northern Irishman found it hard to keep his balance and could only skew his shot over the bar.

The Potters remain unbeaten but slip to second place in the table following Nottingham Forest's 1-0 win at Port Vale earlier this week.

Next up for the reserves is the local derby at Port Vale on Monday.
