Bradford City 1 Stoke City 2
The reserves got their season off to a winning start, beating Bradford City 2-1 at the Bradford and Bingley Stadium.
Coach Lindsay Parsons took charge of a largely youthful side, plus a dash of experience in the shape of former Norwich City defender and triallist Rob Ullathorne.
But it was the Academy graduates who supplied the punch with Lee Parsons and Laurence Hall both finding the net.
Parsons opened the scoring after half an hour when he took a pass from Brian Wilson and took on the home defence before confidently firing home from 12 yards.
Bradford were quickly back in the game, equalising four minutes later when David Clarke was beaten from 18 yards, but the persistence of City's youngsters paid-off midway through the second half when Hall headed home to carry on from where he left off last season.
The home side tried to press in the final 30 minutes but were kept at arm's length by some organised City defending.
Kris Commons had a good game as he continues his return to full fitness after his lengthy injury lay-off while Gareth Owen made further progress with his comeback.
Team: Clarke, Cartwright, Owen, Keogh, Ullathorne, Commons, Denny, Wilson, Palmer, Hall, Parsons (Teague 70). Subs (not used): Duggan, Warwick, Dickinson, Jones.
