Stoke City 3 Rotherham 1
Victory over Rotherham at The Michelin, coupled with long-time leaders Walsall's draw at Sheffield United saw City take the championship by two points.
The game was effectively won in a hectic three minute spell in the first-half when Adam Baptiste struck twice and the young City side took control.
Jay Denny's strike midway through the second-half sealed victory, and although Rotherham pulled a goal back and had late chances the result was never in doubt.
The visitors began strongly and Lee Whittington and Jonathan Steele both saw shots saved by Robert Duggan in the opening exchanges.
City's most experienced player, Paul Williams, then blocked a Matthew Barnes-Homer shot to keep the score blank.
The deadlock was broken after 32 minutes when Jermaine Palmer ran in behind the Millers' defence and cut the ball back for Baptiste to tuck home from close range.
Two minutes later Martin Paterson supplied the cross and Baptiste again made no mistake.
Rotherham should have reduced the arrears five minutes before the break when Tom Fletcher broke clear only to scuff his shot wide.
City finally put the issue beyond doubt in the 65th minute when Denny produced a neat finish, firing in off a post from 16 yards.
The visitors' persistence was finally rewarded 12 minutes from time when Barnes-Homer sprinted clear and confidently tucked his shot past Duggan.
