A City side sprinkled with Academy youngsters found the going tough at Prenton Park against a more experienced Rovers line-up and suffered a defeat which possibly ends hopes of retaining the Pontins League title for a second year.

The home side made a flying start when Steve Jennings netted spectacularly from 30 yards after just two minutes and, from that point on, remained in control.

Young City's task was made even harder eight minutes later when Eugene Dadi added a second goal.

To their credit they battled back and Jermaine Palmer had a chance to reduce the arrears before half-time.

Rovers re-established their grip after the break but had to wait until ten minutes from time when their pressure was finally rewarded with another Dadi goal.
