Stoke City 3 Barnsley 1
Adam Rooney's second goal in as many games helped City's second string breezed past Barnsley at the Britannia Stadium.
The Republic of Ireland youth international netted the third goal with a cheeky back heel, to ensure a first home win of the season for Noel Blake's side.
Kevin Harper grabbed the first while Anthony Pulis added the second shortly after the restart after good work from Sammy Bangoura.
Colin Healy bagged a consolation goal for the Tykes before Adam Rooney added the finishing touches to the score line in the dying minutes.
Noel Blake had the luxury of naming a strong eleven for the second game running, with Bangoura, Jeff Whitley and Kevin Harper all starting for the Potters, and the record-signing striker certainly didn't disappoint.
With just 45 seconds on the clock, Harper latched onto Rooney's through ball before producing a clinical finish.
Bangoura, Rooney and Matthew Hazley all squandered chances in a positive half for the Potters, but the home side remained ahead at the break.
Pulis doubled the lead after 50 minutes when his bullet header beat the despairing dive of Barnsley 'keeper John Lukic, before Healy met Michael Coulson's cross to pull one back for the Tykes.
But the goal of the day was scored by the returning Rooney. After missing much of the season so far through injury, the young Irishman showed he had lost none of his quality with just 10 minutes remaining.
Martin Paterson turned his marker inside out before delivering a low cross, which Rooney neatly back heeled into the net.
