City fought back from a goal down against Hednesford Town to progress to the quarter finals of the Staffs Senior Cup.

Martin Paterson bagged a brace for City who, despite naming a strong side, fell behind in the 20th minute when Mario Pedro netted for the Pitmen.

But just 14 seconds after the restart, Anthony Pulis leveled the scores following a well worked City move.

Paterson edged the visitors in front shortly before half time while Adam Rooney could have added to the lead after the interval but blazed a penalty over the bar.

Sam Bangoura wrapped up the convincing win midway through the second period before Paterson doubled his tally with an impressive finish minutes later.

With Dave Brammer, Bangoura and Peter Sweeney in the starting lineup, City looked to exert there dominance from the off.

Rooney and Sweeney linked up well on the left hand side for the Irishman to fire wide but the hosts took a shock early lead.

Tom Franklin's defence-splitting ball found Pedro through on goal and he clipped the ball over the dive of Robert Duggan.

But straight from the restart, City were on level terms. Rooney's forceful run found Bangoura free in the box and his lay off allowed Pulis to strike home.

It wasn't long before City took the lead as Paterson drove home from close range as the Potters started to dictate the play.

After the break, Rooney should have increased the lead from the spot when Sweeney was brought down inside the area, but the 18-year-old blasted the ball over the bar.

City rode there luck at times with the Pitmen striking the upright on two occasions.

But experience told in the end as Bangoura seized on a cross from Rooney to make it three before a superb strike from Paterson put the icing on the cake with 20 minutes remaining.
